Working Globally Against Caste Discrimination

Private Sector Work

DSN UK's activities are part of a campaign to improve governance, be it in the UK or other affected countries. We believe that by improving governance, the lives of those affected by discrimination based on caste and work & descent will change to such an extent that future generations can live in dignity and security and be equal participants in the various social, political and economic processes that take place around them.

This understanding is based on a universally accepted definition of what is meant by ‘governance’. Going by the UNDP definition (which is more comprehensive than that of the European Commission or the World Bank), governance is the system of values, policies and institutions by which a society manages its economic, political and social affairs through interactions within and among the State, civil society and private sector.

Our private sector work is therefore an important part of the larger plan to increase the synergy between State, civil society and private sector. We hope to use our membership in ETI for deepening and strengthening this synergy.
